Belgium is a competitive country but does not have the strenght to improve the competitiveness. In the report "Competitiveness 2014-2019" Itinera maps out some difficulties for which hardly or no progress is being made.

The propensity to give of the Belgian is strenghtening although it’s still a bit fragile. A majority of the Belgians prefers focused philanthropy and chooses themselves the project. And almost 40% wants to give for themes regarding health.

Itinera advocates for an elderly policy that is committed to increase empowerment of the elderly.

There is a need for alternative financing apart from banking credit. Private equity, venture capital but also crowdfunding can play an important role in this. In any case we need to revaluate the development of risk capital as a priority for our country.

A tax shift away from labour should be top priority. The challenge of next government is a more just taxation that stimulates the economy in a transparent way. Itinera pleads for a tax reform that is budgetary realist.
