Healthcare 2040
The coming years will be defined by fundamental healthcare reforms, driven by the need to safeguard the sustainability, quality, and accessibility of the healthcare system. International scientific literature consistently points to a significant degree of inefficiency in complex healthcare systems: an estimated 20% to 40% of expenditure fails to deliver proportional health gains. This so-called waste manifests itself in overtreatment, fragmentation of care, administrative burden, and suboptimal organization of care processes. The first phase of reform focuses on precisely defining and analyzing this waste, with the aim of identifying realistic efficiency gains and potential savings.
By translating international experience into the Belgian context, a strategic reform path can be charted that goes beyond incremental adjustments. A large-scale event featuring international speakers and Belgian experts will serve as a catalyst for debate and policy reflection. The resulting insights will be brought together in a policy-oriented publication offering concrete lessons learned, guiding policymakers and stakeholders in shaping a future-proof healthcare system.
