Guest contribution: from the equator to the pole
In this guest contribution, Christophe Peeters examines the rapidly evolving geopolitical importance of Greenland and the Arctic region. Against the backdrop of intensifying great-power competition, vulnerable supply chains and an incomplete energy transition, the author argues that Greenland could become a strategic lever for Europe’s energy security, defence posture and strategic autonomy. The analysis situates recent US positions within a broader historical and geopolitical framework and outlines policy options for Europe, while fully respecting Greenlandic self-determination.
