Itinera launches discussion series for local representatives

Itinera launched on 18th of June a series of debates and studies in the framework of the local elections. Different experts gave their vision on the future role and challenges of the CPAS/OCMW. Myriam Deloddere (OCMW secretary of Wervik) argues in her report that all local citizens in all municipalities have the right to an equal treatment by public centres of social welfare. This is possible by deciding on a higher level, for instance provincial, on fixed standards and agreements. Former president of OCMW Antwerp Monica De Coninck stresses the need of local anchoring in order to have a tailor-made policy. L’Itinera Institute pleads for a functioning of the OCMW and CPAS, separately from politics and opposition to safeguard the quality of the services.
